Why an Album?
When I was a small kid me and my mom were at a house party and in a room on the groundfloor my cousins were practising with their Band, my mother asked if I could join them, they said yes and so at the age of 10 or 11 I joined the Band. The music that we played were covers of Indian bollywood songs re-arranged into Caribean, Latin or Pop genre. That was really fun to do, but I always wanted to make music that was mine.
In the early 80s I had my very first experience of recording an Album, with cover songs, together with my cousins. It was very exiting, they let me re-arrange a couple of the songs on the album and I also composed a music piece that consisted only of 3 instruments, the piano, the bass and drums. The leader of the group thought it sounded good and asked our uncle to write the lyrics for it. That was the first time I experienced the rush of creating a full song that would appear on an Album. I was around 13 or 14 years old.
The song is called “Dil” (Heart).
The lyrics were written by Hafiezkhan Wagid Hosain
Sung by Raoul Wagid Hosain,
The CD is called: Dil-E-Nadaan – Fresh Air
The band name was Dil-E-Nadaan 1980s (Naive Heart),
Since then I just wanted to continue composing songs, unfortunately the public wanted only cover songs and all the bands in our community complied to that request. I always felt that, if more musicians would start composing (and there are great musicians in our community) talented songwriters would be discovered or would come forward and it would just change our small music world for the better. But anyhow, this time around it feels like something is in the air, a new change a new era is starting and I thought it is time to do what I’ve always wanted to do.
What is The Album about?
There are a total of 9 songs on it of which 3 are written around 20 years ago and 4 written in the recent years and 2 are music pieces. The songs are about some of the things I’ve experienced throughout my life, Falling in Love, Death, Humanity, Dancing, Flirting, Falling in love again, Depression and Having to let go.
What genre is it?
I have learned some genres over time, so each song contains some small elements of pop, edm, funk, latin, caribean, classic orchestration and jazz. I tried to infuse a bit of the 70s music feel (Western and Indian), which is the era I love, but I can’t really put a genre on it. So at distribution when they asked, what genre? I just chose pop music.
What should we expect next?
More music, more fun.
Although hindi/urdu is not my first language, I am writing the songs in hindi/urdu language and I hope to expand my vocabulary, so that I can express myself better and better.
Finding the sound and music that enjoys and fits me is going to play a big role in the coming year.
I aim to improve myself and my music, by learning new things and using it to compose music that I love and getting better and better at it. So I guess, what I am trying to say is that I hope, it will be a pleasant experience each time you hear my music.
